I wanted to share a review I did on my other blog, Diamond Potential, that I thought YOU... being PHOTOGRAPHERS... would appreciate. With the quality images you take, you could make some WONDERFUL gifts of great quality and value for a REALLY good price!

I love sharing great ideas and products when I come across them. I've found a company that does beautiful canvas prints (also known as Gallery Wraps) for a fraction of the cost!! There are so many great photo gift ideas that truly make a personal and thoughtful gift for your loved ones. The great thing about canvas prints such as this is the high quality, classy texture and no need for an expensive frame!!

This is a photo I took a few years ago of the LDS Salt Lake City Temple in November, when the beautiful Autumn colors surrounded the Square. It was so picturesque and I loved how this tree partially obstructed the edifice. It made for a unique angle! This tree isn't even there, anymore. I wanted to showcase this image in a special way. What better way than a posh canvas print? The image is it's own frame and is akin to the type of prints you would find displayed in a gallery.

I recently received my 16x20 canvas print from ZAZA GALLERY and it is GORGEOUS!! It is just as high quality as the other labs I've used and anyone can order through them for LESS! I shot this image at an angle so you could see how the canvas is wrapped around the inner framing. They give you a choice of edges, too. This one is the blur edge. Here are all the options available:

The top photos were a trip to Hawaii with the Hubs!! We went on a cruise around the Hawaiina Islands for our anniversary and IT . WAS . AWESOME!! Our favorite vacation spot YET!! Kaua'i was MY FAVORITE island!! Don't get me wrong, I loved them ALL... But Kaua'i was just... *sigh* Let's just say that I'll gladly FLASHBACK there, ANYTIME!! ;D

The 2nd shot was more of a snapshot that I threw into some shots I was doing of my daughter. As she was climbing up this man-made park's DRY waterfall and I watched her with this SIGN GLARING so ironically at me... I couldn't HELP but SNAP it!! LOL!!

This top image was Christmastime in 2004! Look how LITTLE my boys are!! This was shot with one of those little point and shoot cameras and spifffed up a bit in PS-CS3. This is STILL my favorite Santa pic! I absolutely LOVE how the boys are listening so intently to what Santa has to say!

We have other great ones, too! Like the Santa at CA Adventure the next year! But I have to leave SOMETHING for holiday time! LOL!! Needless to say, we MISS having annual passes to Disneyland when we lived in SoCal!! It was AWESOME!! We had Southern California resident passes which were good through the week (No weekends/holidays... blacked out most of Jun-Aug) and we DEFINITELY got our money's worth out of them!! We didn't mind the times that were blacked out because those were the crazy busy days, which we didn't care for anyway. We got pretty spoiled going on slow days when we mostly waslked onto everything! *sigh* ;D

I didn't show it to her at first. She asked about it because she remembered me snapping it. It wasn't a posed shot, I had the wrong lens and settings, but thought it was cute and snapped it quick, anyway. Even completely blown out she wanted it so I told her I'd try to make it better. I think the original file is on another external drive. If I find it later today, I'll upload it so you can see the difference.

The first edit was a bit too rich, so I duplicated it, turned off the 100% layer and reduced the duplicate of it to 66%. I turned off the previous process layers so the final reduced opacity would blend with the original to make it more realistic. Yes... I get OCD about these things... THIS is why I have to limit my projects. LOL!!

I did a screen shot of my layers and tried to label each step. As you can see, I use layers and play them off each other regularly. I usually go more for a clean edit unless I have a specific goal in another direction. Hope this makes a little sense. (((HUGS)))

She was adorable, whimsical and PHENOMENALLY TALENTED!!!

I already loved the coloring and magical set up, so I just boosted the hue/saturation and sharpened a bit.

Gave it a slight ethereal feel...

Although I thought they did an excellent job of creating that with the lighting and stage decor!

This is our grandson Vincent! This was taken on his #2 birthday. You may look at him and think he doesn't look that old... That's because he does grow longer, but he is still quite small. He doesn't sit up, he hears a little, can hardly see, crawl, or eat by himself... In fact, he is fed through a feeding tube.

He has NALD. This is short for Neonatal Adrenoleukodystrophy. A genetic disorder on the Zellweger Spectrum. They said he wouldn't likely make it past 16 months, as his sister before him. He is now 27 months and doing quite well!! I absolutely LOVE his giggle!! No matter what my mood, HE can make me smile!!

He has blessed the lives of all who have come in contact with him and his sweet parents (albeit snarky father... LOL!)! They are a great example to us all!! They cherish each day they have with him and have an eternal perspective; always looking for the positive. They lost their daughter to this same condition at 16 months in January of 2007. *sniff*

NALD is an inheritable disorder that affects the adrenal glands, the white matter of the brain and the testes. Some of the symptoms for this disorder include seizures, hyperactivity, crossed eyes, paralysis, hearing loss, and muscular weakness.

Adrenoleukodystrophy describes any of several closely related inheritable disorders that involve the breakdown (metabolism) of certain fats (long chain fatty acids). These disorders affect the adrenal glands, nervous system, and testes.

Adrenoleukodystrophy is transmitted as an X-linked trait (the neonatal form is by autosomal recessive transmission). It affects approximately 1 in 20,000 to 1 in 50,000 individuals from all races.

It results in the accumulation of long chain fatty acids in the nervous system, adrenal gland, and testes, which disrupts normal activity. There are seven recognizedforms of the disease.

The neonatal form appears shortly after birth and includes seizures and delayed neurological development, with death occurring in infancy or young childhood.

Kitchen ARTS for a Birthday BASH! ;D

My son turned 13 on Friday the 13th!!

On Saturday we had a BIG family bash for him.

Our daughter made and decorated a guitar cake for

him that was adorable!! She really did a great job.

There were a LOT of people, though and one was not going to cut it; so I was not off the hook. Not too long ago I got a wonderful recipe from Amy at The Family Trifecta and she let me share it. I had made it when I got the recipe, and the boys loved it so much they'd been bugging me to make it again. So for his big BASH, I gave in and crafted up this beautifully delicious cake!! It was a BIG HIT!! (Thanks again AMY!)

Sharing my 2008 Nature Photos in Hawaii!

This post is in honor of the 5th Annual Nature Photography Day!! I was not able to get out and SHOOT today, so I thought I'd share some of my favorite nature shots I took a couple years ago when we went to Hawaii!! I fell in love with plumerias and orchids while we were there!! I would also LOVE to go do a whole week on Kauai!! 6 of the following shots were on Kauai! The orchids were shot in Hilo at an orchid farm. The others were shot on Maui. Even with it raining and overcast the whole time, it was BEAUTIFUL EVERYWHERE we went!!

A couple I did their wedding for in 2007 happened to be there at the wedding I did Saturday... with their toddler little girl! The grandma was commenting how I must be getting popular because everytime she goes to a wedding, I'M CLICKING AWAY as the photographer... She must not go to many... I don't schedule THAT many... I try not to overload... I like to have time still for family, church activities, and to do a good job on the editing... LOL!! Funny, theirs was outdoors on a rainy day, too!! At least It wasn't all wet when they walked down the isle. It waited till after and we did group shots inside. ;p

but this was BEFORE I started using the ProMax System and I DO still LIKE it. ;p

Something cried vintage to me on this one... that's why I did the b/w...

but the red just SHOUTED to be NOTICED... So POP goes the RED!! ;D

LumiQuest Pro Max System Review - AWESOME!

I've had many people ask me about this cool "thing" I attach to my flash and want me to tell them all about it!! So I decided to do a review of it. I am not being compensated by the makers of this product in any way, but it is a product I have been using for about 3 years now and I don't go anywhere with my camera without it! I absolutely LOVE it and highly recommend it to any photo enthusiast!!

This is the LumiQuest 80/20 ProMax System. I love how flexible it is to adjust as you need for any light situation. When direct flash is too much (it USUALLY is), this is the perfect tool to help you bounce it to just the degree you need. Use the main shell by itself when you want to bounce more light up and a little at your subject. This reduces harsh shadows and doesn't make your subject too bright. To soften even MORE, you can attch the diffuser. If you need more of the light bounced toward your subject, you can use the inserts. It comes with white, gold, and silver, and each color will adjust the color/intensity of light slightly depending on what you're wanting. The diffuser can soften that as well. I've attached a YOUTube clip that explains it well.

This Old Dead Tree... No More...

OK, When I lived in Hooper, I drove by this tree ALL THE TIME!! When Rich and I were driving by it one day in 2005, we just happened to have the camera and thought, "That's a COOL DEAD TREE!" We stopped and took a picture... Just ONE... and BELIEVE ME... with ALL our images, it's AMAZING that we FOUND this one. Rich took this one and I edited it. He also FOUND it. Now THAT'S an accomplishment. =D

Monday evening I got a call from a friend that lives near it. She said that a farmer burned their field and a dead tree caught on fire... "It looks cool, you might want to take a picture!" I get there and LO and BEHOLD!! It's the SAME TREE!!! It's a SMALL WORLD after ALL!

Gross Neglect

Yes! I have grossly neglected this blog... as well as the website and gallery. I haven't touched the website in over 2 years and I've only been using the gallery for proofing but not promoting. I haven't been promoting while we've been up in the air about what's happening with my headaches/migraines, and balancing thing with my medication. I have still kept busy enough for my liking with friends, family, and referrals from them and past customers. In spite of the anxiety of Trek this summer, and I swore I wasn't going to do any weddings in June, there was one that I couldn't refuse. I'll be shooting her bridals and engagements this coming Saturday and after some faves are edited, I'll start posting some again. If I ever feel real ambitious, I may do some back posts with some of the shoots of done over the last couple of YEARS! HAH! Rather than get too overwhelmed, I may just focus on going forward and occasionally post a "Favorite from the Vacant Years". LOL! (((HUGS)))

The day went smoothly. The images in the current slideshow were actualy taken ahead of time so they could have edited pictures to diplay at the reception. Made it quite a bit less stressful for all. ;D

My friend Teresa has Menengitis. She's been in ICU for a few weeks and is expected to be there at least a few more. I'm praying for her family and for her recovery. She's a delightful lady who is one of the most unselfish people I know. She has an awesome family. When I lived in Hooper, she was there for me constantly. Even after I moved, we'd occasionally have lunch or just visit. Anytime something major has happened in my family, she has run to my side. I hope I can be as good a friend.

Teresa, Ricky, Heidi, Andrea, Jackie, Rodney, Blake, & Tim... Hang in there and GOD BLESS YOU!! (All prayers are WELCOME!!)

Richard & I went to see Teresa last night after going to the temple. When we first went in it looked like she was sleeping, so I was trying to leave a note on the chocolate bar we brought for her and put it by her water. As I was she said, "What are you 2 doing here? You better say Hi!" I gave her the chocolate bar and she put it under the sheet holding it while talking. She felt pretty warm. I imagined her falling asleep like that and the nurses finding her in a pool of chocolate... LOL! I told her I'd put it by her water so if she needed it she could find it. She mentioned she saw my grandbaby earlier (??? OK???) and that she didn't know what they were doing for Mother's Day, probably just going to church and she'd probably see me there this Sunday. I told her probably not this week. ; ) She was asking about how our family was. She's such a sweetheart!! Even though she likely won't remember we stopped, I'm SO glad we did! Hang in there family! She's a wonderful woman, as you well know! This too shall pass...

So many people don't realize what a difference light makes in an image. If you schedule a photo shoot in the middle of the day and there's not enough shade, you are seeing squinted eyes, bright spots on the face that take away from the subject, and harsh shadows. This is why I try to do shoots the hour before sunset or on an overcast day. something to think about if your scheduling an outdoor event. ; )

Friday, my 10 yr old and I went to visit our newest grandson, Vincent. Okay, we went to see Amy & Travis, TOO!! Hahaha!! Mom & Dad are so happy to have him home and seem to be adjusting well to their new addition! What cute little parents they are!!

Travis took Braden on a hike while Amy and I cuddled Vincent,

visited, and watched "Dan in Real Life".

Vincent is such a sweetie! Going back on Monday and staying over Tuesday.

I'll be sure to bring the camera... of course... ; )

I was very excited to receive an Editor's Pick from my Photo Submission from Mike's Case! This was a one act play where my son Ben played the main character and went all the way to the state competition! It's a little different, but REALLY a cool capture of the mood and movement in the scene!

In the last 2 weeks I've done 3 Senior Portrait Shoots, a Mother-Daughter Event, 1 Prom Shoot, and 1 Wedding Engagement Shoot
